1. What is a Verb?
A verb is a word that shows action, state, or occurrence.Examples:
She runs fast. (action)
He is happy. (state)
It rained yesterday. (occurrence)
A. Main (Principal) Verbs
These verbs show the main action.
Examples:
run, eat, write, sleep, speak
Sentence:
They write a letter.
B. Auxiliary (Helping) Verbs
Used with main verbs to show tense, voice, mood.
Primary Auxiliaries:
is, am, are, was, were, has, have, had, do, does, did
Modal Auxiliaries:
can, could, may, might, shall, should, will, would, must, ought to, need, dare
Example:
She is singing.
You should study.
C. Transitive & Intransitive Verbs
Transitive Verb → Needs an object
He wrote a letter. (letter = object)
Intransitive Verb → No object

D. Finite & Non-finite Verbs
Finite Verbs → Change with tense, number, person

Non-finite Verbs (do not change):
Infinitive: to eat
Gerund: eating

These verbs connect subject with complement.
