Output Devices आउटपुट डिवाइस Types, Examples & CPCT Notes

Output devices are hardware components that present the processed data or information from a computer to the user.

Basic Computer Cycle

Input → Processing → Output → Storage

Input: 25 + 15

Processing: Addition

Output: 40

1. Monitor –

A Monitor is a visual output device that displays text, images, graphics and videos.

It is also called a Visual Display Unit (VDU).

Common Types

CRT

LCD

LED

OLED

Important CPCT Point

Monitor = Soft Copy Output

The information displayed on a screen is generally called soft copy.

🧠 Trick

Monitor → Screen → Soft Copy

---

2. Printer –

A Printer produces a physical copy of text, images or graphics on paper.

The printed result is called a Hard Copy.

---

Types of Printers

Printers are broadly classified into:

A. Impact Printers

Impact printers produce output by physically striking an inked ribbon against paper.

Examples

Dot Matrix Printer

Daisy Wheel Printer

Line Printer

CPCT Trick

Impact = Physical Contact

---

B. Non-Impact Printers

Non-impact printers do not require mechanical striking against paper.

Examples

Inkjet Printer

Laser Printer

Thermal Printer

🧠 Trick

Non-Impact = No Striking

---

3. Dot Matrix Printer –

Important Features

Impact printer

Uses print head and ribbon

Produces relatively noisy output

Can be used for multipart forms

CPCT Question

Dot Matrix belongs to which category?

Answer: Impact Printer

---

4. Inkjet Printer –

An Inkjet Printer produces output by spraying tiny droplets of ink onto paper.

Features

Non-impact printer

Good for color printing

Suitable for photos and home use

Relatively quiet

CPCT Trick

Inkjet → Ink Droplets

---

5. Laser Printer –

A Laser Printer uses a laser-based electrophotographic process and toner to produce printed output.

Laser printer laser-based printing process

Common Uses

ATM receipts

POS billing

Retail receipts

Tickets

CPCT Trick

Thermal = Heat

---

7. Plotter –

A Plotter is an output device designed to produce large, precise drawings and graphics.

Applications

Engineering drawings

Architecture

Maps

CAD

Large-format graphics

CPCT Trick

Plotter = Large Engineering Drawings

---

8. Speaker –

Speakers produce audio output from a computer.

Uses

Music

Movies

Online classes

Video conferencing

Alerts and notifications

CPCT Trick

Speaker = Sound Output

---

9. Headphones –

Headphones are audio output devices that allow a user to listen to sound privately.

Examples

Wired Headphones

Wireless Headphones

Earphones/Earbuds

CPCT Trick:
Headphones = Personal Audio Output

---

10. Projector –

A Projector displays computer-generated images or video on a large screen or projection surface.

Uses

Classrooms

Presentations

Meetings

Training

Home Theatre

CPCT Trick

Projector = Large Screen Display

---

11. Braille Display –

A Refreshable Braille Display is an assistive output device that converts digital text into tactile Braille characters.

Refreshable Braille Display digital text को touch-based Braille characters के रूप में प्रस्तुत करता है।

Uses

Accessibility

Reading digital text

Computer access for visually impaired users

CPCT Trick

Braille Display = Tactile Output

---

12. Soft Copy vs Hard Copy

This is a very important CPCT concept.

Soft Copy –

Information displayed electronically on a screen is generally called a soft copy.

Examples

Monitor display

Digital document

PDF viewed on screen

---

Hard Copy –

Information printed on a physical medium such as paper is called a hard copy.

Examples

Printed document

Printed photograph

Printed report

🧠 Super Trick

Monitor → Soft Copy

Printer → Hard Copy
