Computer Generations –
Computer Generations refer to the different stages in the development of computer technology. Each generation introduced a major technological improvement that made computers smaller, faster, more reliable and more powerful.
The five commonly studied generations are:
First Generation → Second Generation → Third Generation → Fourth Generation → Fifth Generation
1. First Generation –

T = Transistor = Tiny
3. Third Generation –
Period: 1964–1971
The third generation introduced Integrated Circuits (ICs). Several electronic components could be placed on a single chip.

Memory Trick
I = IC = Improved Performance
4. Fourth Generation –
Period: 1971–Present
The fourth generation introduced the Microprocessor. A complete CPU could be integrated onto a single chip.
